Casey Key is a long stretch of barrier island just north of and adjoining Nokomis Beach in the Florida Cultural Coast.  The shoreline in this area  consists of primarily large beach-side estates; often in the multi-million dollar range.  Casey Key affords little or no beach access or parking along the narrow, winding road North of the public beach park.  While this trip can be an interesting drive for those wanting to get the flavor of the area, our recommendation for those wanting to explore the beach a little is to park at Nokomis Beach and hike North.

Nokomis Beach is a popular but un-crowded beach on Casey Key with a down to earth “Old Florida” character (check out the Nokomis Beach page here on Florida Nature Guide).  It is familiar to local residents and vacationers to the area for the abundance of fossilized shark teeth to be found.  Those willing to walk along Casey Key from this beach will often find long beachfront stretches with no one to be seen since this pastime does not seem to appeal as much to those residing in beach-side estates.
