Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys has often been noted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the United States. The views from this beach in this relatively small state park contribute in large part to this claim to fame. The beach faces west, providing unhampered views of beautiful Florida Keys sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. This feature, coupled with the warm Keys waters and soft beach without the commercialized development so common in major metropolitan areas invites visitors to relax and appreciate this Florida treasure.

The beach itself isn’t large compared to many of the popular coastal destinations in Florida. It curves around in a crescent shape and although the surf in the Florida Keys is usually gentle, swimmers can enjoy an even gentler dip in the semi-protected lagoon created by this feature. The park adjoins the Bahia Honda Bridge and water currents become swift in that area, so swimmers and snorkelers should remain in the calmer waters of the protected area close to the beach.

There are two beaches in this park: Caloosa Beach is located near the Bahia Honda Bridge, and Sandspur Beach is located eastward on the ocean-side. Caloosa Beach is often considered more popular with anglers seeking to take advantage of the overpass and deeper waters off the shoreline. Sandspur beach is generally favored for those seeking to enjoy the warm, crystal clear tropical waters found in this white coral sand lined stretch of laid back Florida lifestyle. The gentle slope of the beach and calm waters make this area an ideal destination for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, or just enjoying the Caribbean character of the Florida Keys.

Amenities at Bahia Honda State Park include restrooms, changing rooms, rinsing facilities and a water fountain. Beachside picnic facilities are available in the fashion of pagodas on the beach where visitors can enjoy some shade, eat their meal and spend time on the beach at the same time. There’s an indoors nature center for visitors on the southern end of the beach which offers additional learning opportunities for all audiences.
