St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is located on the tip of the St Joe / Cape San Blas coastal barrier peninsula and includes 10 miles of uninterrupted white quartz, sandy oceanfront adventures.  This narrow stretch of sand lies just north of the Cape San Blas area and Eglin Air Force Base and provides endless opportunities for the nature or beach lover to enjoy Florida’s beaches as they were meant to be.  Those seeking to enjoy undeveloped beach beauty alongside nature will not be disappointed on this Forgotten Coast gem.

In spite of numerous awards ranking this beach as one of America’s best beaches, the park remains relatively unknown to many visitors to Florida.  This anonymity lends to the character of a natural Florida beach treasure the park enjoys.

Naturalists will find that the park is a bird watcher’s paradise, with more than 240 species found here.   There are abundant trails off the shoreline to hike and observe native wildlife in unique Florida coastal ecosystems.   Kayakers and canoeists will enjoy the estuaries along the eastern area of the peninsula.

Those wishing to camp at the park can stay in a full-facility campground located just a short walk from the beach and enjoy moonlit beach excursions along the shoreline.  Eight cabins on the bay side offer alternative overnight accommodations, or those wishing to “rough it” a bit will find primitive campsites in the wilderness preserve available.   For wilderness camping, follow the Wilderness Preserve Trail approximately seven miles to the Cape’s end.  Arrangements will need to be made with park officials in advance, and be sure to pack all your water and everything else you might need because this is true primitive camping.
